Botanical Name: citrus aurantium
There are three essential oils derived from the leaves and fruit of the Orange tree but the oil from the orange flower - Neroli - is the mostly highly prized and expensive.
This exotic, fragrant oil is used extensively in skin care products, especially for dry/sensitive skin. It is also widely favored for its calming, soothing properties when inhaled.
Uses of Neroli Absolute Essential Oil- Diffuse in a water-based diffuser or vaporizer to create an relaxing, calming, soothing atmosphere.
- For acne, mix equal drops of Neroli and Lavender in a bowl of slightly hot water. Cover head with a towel and steam face for several minutes.
- For sleeplessness, put a few drops in a warm (not hot) bath just before bed.
- Feeling overwhelmed, mix 3 drops Neroli in 2 teaspoons of carrier oil (Safflower, Sunflower, etc.) and massage into back of neck, temples and solar plexus. Breathe deeply for a few minutes.
- Widely used in bridal bouquets to calm the nerves of nervous brides.

History and BackgroundIt is believed that this oil was named for the late 17th century Princess of Nerola, a city near Rome.
Neroli was used in the first eaux de cologne in the early 18th century.
In Chinese medicine, cool/neutral action, clears heat, calms and stabilizes heart and mind. Helps to re-establish links between disconnected body and mind. Facilitates release of deep emotional pain.
Physical DescriptionThis precious oil is yellowish to orange in color. Can darken with age or turn reddish-brown if exposed to light and air which reduces effectiveness.
Aromatic DescriptionIts aroma is fresh, delicate, rich, warm, with a slight citrus note, sweet, and floral.
Biological Makeup and ComponentsAcetic esters, geraniol, dipentene, terpineol, farnesol, l-camphene, jasmone, indol, alpha and beta pinene, nerolidol, nerol.
Extraction TechniqueSolvent extraction from freshly picked flowers of the orange tree.
