Four Bedtime Rituals For Your Best Sleep
If you could wave a magic wand, and give yourself better sleep, would you jump at the chance? For many people, deep, more restful sleep can be difficult to achieve. With our busy schedules, many obligations, and seemingly not enough hours in the day, waking up feeling refreshed can seem impossible.
Quality sleep is important to our well-being, because it’s the only time our body, brain, and even our skin have time to recover from the stressors of the day. We’ve compiled a list of simple, easy-to-incorporate, bedtime rituals to help you achieve your best nights sleep.
Set The Scene
One of the easiest things you can do to promote better sleep is to set the scene in your bedroom. Research has shown that putting away your electronic devices and the pesky blue light they emit can disrupt your ability to fall asleep. Instead, create a playlist of soothing sounds, like rain, waves on the sand, or a roaring fire.
Additionally, scent is an incredibly powerful tool to help soothe the mind. Incorporating an essential oil diffuser with a calming scent is a great place to start. Single essential oils, like Lavender, or a soothing blend, such as our Tranquil Essential Oil Blend are perfect choices, while more stimulating oils can have the opposite affect. If you don’t want to diffuse, you can also spritz our Tranquil MultiSpray on your linens, or pillow prior to hitting the hay.
Indulge in a Bathing (or Showering) Ritual
If you take a bath or shower in the evening, you’re already on the right track for bedtime bliss. Cleansing away the dirt and grime in gentle, warm water can be incredibly therapeutic prior to climbing in to bed. In fact, studies show that warm water can stimulate circulation, and ultimately lower your internal body temperature, which is ideal for sleeping.
If your default cleansing ritual is bathing, we recommend a combination of our Serene Bath & Body Oil with our Serene Bath Salts. Using these in tandem can transform your bath in to the ultimate aromatherapy ritual and help you unwind, much like a glass of wine. For those who prefer to shower, combining our Lavender Body Scrub with our Lavender Body Wash will help you drift off to dreamland.
Use the Power of Touch
Turn your nighttime skincare routine in to a ritual by incorporating a gentle, calming facial massage while applying your favorite skincare products. Our favorite way to wind down? Our SV23 Phyto Serum, massaged in to the skin with your fingers, or our Rose Quartz Roller & Gua Sha Stone. SV23 contains 23 skin-loving ingredients and envelops the skin with a warm, comforting, scent.
Bedtime is also the perfect time to treat the rest of your body to some TLC. Massage our Lavender Body Cream in to the body after showering or bathing. Or, if you prefer, rub our Sweet Dreams Roll-On near your temples, or on your finger tips, and breathe deeply. This self-touch ritual can help to induce a sense of safety, calm, and warmth- all great things when you’re trying to get in to a relaxing mind set.
Practice Good Sleep Hygiene
Like many aspects of life, developing healthy habits can have a major impact on our mood, productivity, and relationships. Strong sleep hygiene means having both a bedroom environment and daily routines that promote consistent, uninterrupted sleep. Things such as having a fixed wake-up time daily, prioritizing sleep over other activities, and not overdoing it with napping can have a positive impact on how deep you sleep. Ensuring you carve out enough time in your evening to engage in the same wind-down ritual each night is crucial to a better night’s sleep.
If you experience difficulty getting up in the morning, wash your face with an invigorating facial cleanser, such as our Algae Deep Cleanse. If you choose to shower in the morning, reach for our stimulating Peppermint Body Wash to wake you up before you’ve even had your morning coffee.
Better sleep may be as easy as optimizing your environment and habits, although it may look different for everyone. If you’re struggling with sleep, it may be worth it to try shifting just one of your bedtime habits, and experimenting with what works best for you.
