How to Manage A Broken Heart this Valentine’s Day
All right, we’ve had enough of the sappy, romantic Valentine’s Day blogs about love. Each year, at the beginning of February, the world seems to revolve around those people who are in relationships. What about those who are alone and suffering from broken hearts?
Whether you were broken up with or initiated the split, it can feel like your world has been turned upside down. There’s really no right or wrong way to feel, and unfortunately, there’s no magic formula to deal with the pain associated with a breakup. One thing is for certain though: taking good care of yourself post-split is a must.
This year, we’re taking a different approach to the sappiest holiday of the year. Grab your comfiest pajamas, a glass of wine (or a cup of tea!), and snuggle up on the couch. Here’s how to help mend your broken heart this Valentine’s Day.
Treat Your Breakup Like a Physical Injury
You wouldn’t force yourself to hit the gym if your leg was broken, right? Extending yourself the same kindness for an emotional injury is totally fine! Although you may physically feel as if you’re operating at 100%, emotionally, and mentally, you may not be.
One of our favorite ways to help ourselves heal is by balancing our chakras. Chakras are the seven energy centers in the body, positioned from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, They influence bodily processes, both physical and emotional. Our Chakra Oil Kit contains seven blends of essential oils specifically chosen to instill a sense of balance and support. Diffuse them in the air, or mix them with your favorite body cream or lotion for a moment of self-care. Pay particular attention to Chakra 4, the heart chakra.
Load Up on Moments of Self-Care
We believe that self-care is important all the time, but particularly so after a tough breakup. The way self-care can manifest is different for each individual. Try treating yourself to something that makes you feel good, whether it's a cup of coffee with a friend or a massage at your favorite spa. Doing things that make your smile can help you along in the healing process.
Now, more than ever it’s time to indulge. Although neglecting to take care of yourself may be tempting, having little doses of self-care around can encourage you to do those menial tasks that seem impossible post-breakup. Treat yourself to our Lavender Body Scrub, and then follow up with our luxurious Make Your Own Body Oil. Think of it as a 10-minute indulgence that will be sure to make you smile.
Grieve Your Loss…
It’s 100% normal to go through a rollercoaster of emotions after a breakup. One moment, you’re feeling like you can conquer the world, and the next, you are in tears. It’s important to let yourself feel it all, as it is necessary to help the healing process.
While you’re sitting with the sometimes uncomfortable emotions, there are some things you can do to help ease the grieving process. Try journaling, to get your feelings on paper or talk to a trusted friend or therapist. Our Transition Natural Elixir can help to take the edge off of the range of emotions that may come with any big life change. Wear it as a fragrance, create your own DIY room spray, or add a few drops to your air conditioning filter to scent your space.
But Don’t Be Consumed By Heartbreak For Too Long
Just as there’s no one particular way to grieve, there isn’t a set time limit for how long it takes to get over someone. Although it’s important to feel your feelings, try not to get consumed by them, as wallowing for too long can be more detrimental long term. Give yourself grace in making mistakes in love- you’re growing from it after all!
Although it may feel completely impossible to get back out there and meet people again, you WILL be ready for it one day. When you’re ready to embark on your new chapter, get ready to face the day with our Love Potions No. 3.
